Support
A State Memorial Service is held in Lansing each year during May to honor officers killed in the line of duty. A Christmas dinner is held each year for survivors and a banquet is held in Washington D.C., in May each year for survivors, co-workers, and honor guards attending the National Memorial Service.
MI-COPS is a network of survivors who have experienced a similar loss.  They provide moral support and assistance for those facing trials and appeals. Psychologists who specialize in grief counseling for both adults and children are available through support groups.
MI-COPS officers and survivors are present at visitations, funerals, and memorial services for fallen officers. Survivor support meetings are held monthly.
A quarterly newsletter focuses on the special needs of survivors. MI-COPS is responsible for supporting legislation to benefit survivors, i.e., 1996 Survivor Tuition Bill for spouses and children of fallen officers.
